John, you have to admit that the radical right often gets carried away with it's political tactics. They need to be defanged because they do more harm than good for the USA. McCain was simply reminding those factions that they need to remember we're all Americans, even the Democrats. That's what many rabid Repubs on the far right so easily forget. McCain took the bull by the horns & delivered a riveting and persuasive speech for GW's re-election. That's the important thing to remember. Anyone who has ever been involved in a spirited election knows it's not easy to forgive being slimed by your opponent, especially if that opponent expects your support in the future.
McCain proved last night what a stalwart American he is by telling the undecideds they should vote for Pres Bush. I'm still smarting from a recent local election that involved a family member. It also was a party primary. I'll be voting against that particular Republican this time, but McCain showed in his speech that he puts his country ahead of political concerns. That takes a large heart & a wise head.
