They understand. They just want their votes - not caring about the long term effect on our country. I think they are traitors.

Bush tax system greatly rewards the rich and hurts the middleclass, especially over the long run with all the estate tax cuts, rich getting richer and everyone else taking it on the nose.
There are several big hdiden taxes under Bush too, like higher health care, drug and energy bills, plus of course much bigger debt loads to pay off (someday, Bush leaving it all for the next guy, thanks GW).
