But did we need to fight THAT war?

If you look at it in the context of the day, absolutely. We had Russia making it clear they intended to see Communism spread to every country on earth. South Vietnam was the next nation to fall. Sure, it made some sense to be over there. But the liberals who started the war were tentative about the pursuit of it. By the time LBJ got out it was too late. Luckily, Reagan came along a decade later and ended nuclear proliferation (which was the liberal issue of the day, which ONLY GOT WORSE under liberal presidents), and ultimately ended the Cold War.

This lesson is probably the biggest in the history of our lifetimes, and the reason Reagan will be remembered as the greatest president since Teddy Roosevelt -- he was committed to defeating communism, and he did it. Single handedly. This is greatness. George Bush is just as committed to defeating terrorism.

>> And if it had been won?

20/20 is great. We now know that Reagan was elected and defeated communism. We did not know that would happen at the time.
