Talks to Disarm Shiites Collapse

nytimes.com

Sounds from the article that Allawi does not feel weak enough to have to try to keep up a peace deal that left Sadr's Mahdi army intact and gave him time to regroup and rebuild. Allawi intends to keep the pressure up. I hope he has swung enough sheikhs to his side to manage it. The article notes that the main Shiite parties are not eager to compete with Sadr because "it might diminish their chances of political success". My comment, yes it would - by diminishing their chance of personal survival. In the Arab world, thugs like al Sadr "campaign" by assassination. Khoiei he killed already, and then he tried to move against Sistani but found him too big to tackle. Naturally, the other parties are "concerned".

Under GWB's leadership, many in the US FINALLY woke up. During Clinton's administration, they, and therefore most of us, just thought we could call the terrorists criminals, and deal with them that way. No one really ever thought they would hit us in this country.

Capturing kids in Russia is reprehensible. Killing or injuring innocent kids anywhere in the world is reprehensible and barbarian.

Of course, there are still some that don't want to open their eyes. It's much easier to be an ostrich.
