I'm playing the housing bust with LEAP puts. So far I'm losing my shirt - but there is still a little time left between now and January 2007. Hope springs eternal.

CSFB recently did a study on homebuilders, an excellent study.

From the report, during 2003 13% of BZH homes are in Cal but responsible of 35% of EBIT.

17% of DHI homes are in Cal but responsible of 42% of EBIT.

20% of KBH homes are in Cal but responsible of 51% of EBIT.

39% of SPF homes are in Cal but responsible of 79% of EBIT.

The message being that if Cal goes down, some of these builders may be disproportionally hit.
