Kerry Camp Roiled By Secret Clintonista Coup

CNS News reports:

In a statement issued Thursday, the Kerry campaign said Rep. Dick Gephardt and Joe Lockhart, the campaign's new senior adviser, will hold a conference call with reporters to discuss the latest (economic) numbers.
New senior advisor? Interesting, considering the New York Times report from two days ago on September 1.

Several senior Kerry aides who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the addition of two former Clinton hands, Joel Johnson and Joe Lockhart, had improved both operations and the mood inside the campaign headquarters in Washington.

Mr. Johnson's role is to keep the communications team laser-focused on Mr. Kerry's core messages. Mr. Lockhart is to begin traveling with Mr. Kerry in Nashville and will work directly with reporters.

"There's not going to be a staff shakeup," Ms. Cutter said definitively. "We are building up the team with the best and the brightest to take us through the homestretch."

Mr. Lockhart added: "Any idea that the senior leadership of this campaign is about to be changed is just not true."

Only in the Kerry campaign is a "new senior adviser" not a "staff shakeup.

The Blogspirator figures it all depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is.

Interestingly, Lockhart served as a travelling press aide for the 1988 Dukakis/Bentsen race.... And also as Assistant Press Secretary for '84 Mondale/Ferraro and '80 Carter/Mondale.

The Blogspirator thinks it sounds like Kerry picked himself a winner...
