I like the way you think even if i dont always agree with everything you say. Maybe its because you are a dispassionate observer rather than an ideologue. I try to be that way but am not always successful. It looks like bush will get his four years. And if so, we will be in iraq for those four years. I think we both hope that it works out in iraq even if the way it goes doesnt fit our some of our preconceived notions. Mike
PS Some things over there i think are important to at least work on that will give us some advantage.
1. Kurd/Turk reconciliation along with continuation of turk/israel alliance.
2. US/Iran trying to find things that unite rather than things that divide re: iraq and sistani and nukes and israel are 4 issues that need to be dealt with.
3.US/France fighting the wot together and perhaps joint actions in iraq that take into account the interests of both.
4. Triangle repair--I dont have a clue how to make falujah better

I agree with you on Pakistan and the Jordanians. The Kurds are the most stable of the three interests in Iraq and the most likely to ally with us in the near future. They seem driven towards the idea of independency, so that will eventually have to be looked at.

The other two interests in Iraq are Shi'ites and Sunnis. The risk in leaving and leaving them to 'work things out' is that we would be inviting the extremes (Al-Quaida and The Army of Mahdi) to establish themselves in Iraq with international support from every Sunni Muslim state and Iran, the only Shi'ite Muslim state. I can guarantee the results would be a blood bath and that the victor would have us in it's cross hairs some time in the future. The current effort to establish a representative govt is the in the best interests of the global community. However, if you read the prophesy (Sunni, Shi'ite, Israel, Christian) for things that will bring a messiah, the blood bath followed by world war could be part of that puzzle piece. ... hope not.
