I do not think that has been his strategy in the past of luring opponents into false sense of complacency. He is probably a dogged and optimist fighter but he might have gotten lucky before. He is dealing with a totally different animal who will not budge in inch. He effectively needs to rebut and counteract Bush team. He also needs to preempt. All this can be done smoothly (the way John Edwards did it in last night's speech)
