Taking it to them is fine. It's the 'them' that is the problem. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. We would have been closer to the target by invading Pakistan or Saudi Arabia. They had closer ties to bin Laden than Iraq. For that matter, so did Iran, Yemen, and Somalia.

Right after 9/11, Bush started talking to his staff about going after Iraq. It is clear that this was the plan all along, and 9/11 provided an excuse. Instead of spending our resources finding and fighting Al Qaeda and bin Laden, we've spent enormous troop, financial, and diplomatic capital in attacking the wrong target. Now, that wrong target is fighting back, and we've created even more enemies and more support for bin Laden.

Playing right into bin Laden's plans. How clever of us.
