That's an impossible task but someone's going to have to do it and the sooner the better. The longer we wait the worse it's going to be and then Mr Market and Mother Nature will force it on us and it will cost much more in terms of money and lives to resolve.

Some of the less offensive starting points would be to increase research on nuclear fusion to point of actually being effective. Research on hyrdogen storage, e.g. metal hydrides. Build pebble-based nuclear fission reactors that will reduce the cost of producing electricity below that of coal or natural gas and allow market forces to phase coal and ng out. Increase grants and graduate student stipends for energy research to produce more scientists and engineers that can contribute. There's a lot we can do.

We could also be as intrusive as possible and impose European levels of gasoline taxes, etc.

I think Kerry would steer into the right direction while Bush is going in exactly the opposite direction.
