READ MY LIPS, REPEAT AFTER ME: WHEN THERE IS AN INCREASE IN THE NATIONAL DEBT, IT IS BECAUSE THERE WAS A DEFICIT IN THE ACCOUNTING PERIOD WHICH IS BEING REPORTED ON. THE NATIONAL DEBT IS INCREASED BY BORROWING. BORROWING OCCURS BECAUSE THERE WAS AN EXCESS OF EXPENSES OVER REVENUE, ALSO KNOWN AS A "DEFICIT". Sheesh.
