Gus, update on the Equatorial Guinea "coup"

1. South African government has been involved in discussions with EG to obtain oil concessions for itself and has known about the "coup" for a long time and, in fact, had "tipped off" both Zimbabwe and EG. That's another reason why I believe the SAn govnt was in some way involved in whatever the "coup" was about. As I mentioned previously, the plane carrying the mercenaries left from a SAn military airfield (which is absolutely off-limits to private aircraft). And most certainly, the pre-knowledge of the SA gov about the "coup" begs the question why they even let it go ahead knowing a crime was being committed from SAn soil. (Shades of 9/11!!)

Here's a scan from a local paper.

>>The suspected mercenaries are currently in a legal limbo after their trial was indefinitely suspended on Tuesday. Although court documents given to the defence appear to indicate that the trial will resume within 30 days, Obono has refused to rule out a longer wait. “Six months is not a long time, even if it is a year.” At one stage, angered by repeated questions on the men’s living conditions, he asked: “Are you acting as a lawyer for the accused, or as a journalist?”

“This is really a delaying tactic because [the government] have no case,” said a South African source. “They have some confessions allegedly signed under torture and some guns that no one knows [the origins of] but even the prosecution admits [the guns] were not found in this country.” <<

Gus > You don't have to travel as far as Iraq to be abducted by "ugly terrorists"

True and what's more if you are abducted in Iraq you don't even know who did it or why you have been abducted even though all the "baddies" are always dressed up in Muslim attire. At least, in Mexico, you have the satisfaction of knowing it's just about money -- so you can die peacefully!
