The biggest problem with the arguments you propose is you have not yet provided your definition of terrorism. Clearly your definition is different than most. That is why I decided yesterday this conversation is a dead end.

It never occurred to me that I was operating off an aberrant definition of terrorism. My understanding of the term is the creation of terror by targeted violence against civilians to intimidate enemies into concessions. I certainly hope that a lack of a common understanding of that word is not what mucked up this attempted exploration of the morality of terrorism. Other than my operating with a lay definition for what for you may be a term of art, what is wrong with my working definition and how has it been problematic?

As for my not having provided a definition, I did recommend to Nadine upthread a site I encountered in my research on this. I didn't cite it for the purpose of providing my particular definition of terrorism, which never occurred to me as necessary, but because it presented a lot of different angles on the subject, one of which was the media's use of the word, but it did include a definition. Here's the link again. And here's the definition.

<<Terrorism : (noun)

1: the calculated use of violence (or threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimindation or coercion or instilling fear>>
