Don > Who benefits from this? As usual, it's Israel.

In the circumstances, how does one view this:

>>Akhmed Zakayev, a special envoy to Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov has said that “a third force that brought Russian President Vladimir Putin to power” is behind all the terrorist attacks committed in Russia over the past two weeks. London-based Zakayev said this in an exclusive interview with the Caucasus Times newspaper, printed in Prague, Czech Republic.

Zakayev said that “Chechen resistance forces led by Ichkeria President Aslan Maskhadov have nothing to do with the hostage crisis in North Ossetia”. He called the events a sad fact and condemned actions against Russian children and civilians.<<

Who benefits from this?

IN TERMS OF $$$$, the best benefits go to MIC, OIL CARTEL, and Israel. Worst $$$ losers: US taxpayer and world consumers. Read on.

Israel also gets the removal of a perceived threat next door (Saddam)

1. While our energy cost rise to new record levels here is what Israel gets:

"Northern Iraq's oil fields are among the richest in the world, and according to some sources have reserves as large as Saudi Arabia's.
Infrastructure Minister Yosef Paritsky said April 9 that he has ordered his ministry to conduct a feasibility study for reopening and possibly widening the 350 mile pipeline. He estimated that oil coming straight from Iraq could reduce Israeli energy prices by 15 to 20 percent providing a much-needed break for the flagging economy
Paritsky reckoned that such a deal "can become feasible the day after a new regime begins operating in Iraq. But we have to wait and see what happens."

"He envisions tankers from all over the world taking on loads of crude oil, or oil already refined in Haifa's refineries all at a price, of course. As Israel buys its oil on the open market and ships it via tankers, a pipeline would significantly cut often-hefty shipping and docking prices."

also here:
The National Infrastructure Ministry has recently conducted research indicating that construction of a 42-inch diameter pipeline between Kirkuk and Haifa would cost about $400,000 per kilometer. The old Mosul-Haifa pipeline was only 8 inches in diameter.

National Infrastructure Minister Yosef Paritzky said yesterday that the port of Haifa is an attractive destination for Iraqi oil and that he plans to discuss this matter with the U.S. secretary of energy during his planned visit to Washington next month.

2. A HUGE WEALTH TRANSFER From the US treasury to the pockets of a handfull companies to the tune of over 300 billion and counting (Halliburton, Betchel, Rand, etc.)

3. Huge wealth transfer due to higher oil prices from the US consumer pockets (also the world consumer) to the pockets of The OIL CARTEL (GW's oil friends and Cheney's Rummy's friends have more than enough to re-elect GW)

Note the windfall earnings of the oil companies last few years. Cost to produce the oil for the ground has stayed the same even dropped according to CHEVRON. But now with controlling the spigot of the second largest oil fields (Iraq) and of course the continued "terrorist" attacks threat down there, the price to sell is at record levels.

Will the us taxpayer ever wake up? Sometimes I think the taxpayer gets what he/she deserves... sad but true.
