Because we are so willing to adopt the role of the world's police force, other countries will gladly let us do the dirtywork. Meanwhile their citizens enjoy a higher standard of living than US citizens do with health care etc.

IMO it's not about the welfare of the common man, It's about the ambitions of the leading elite.
