Yes, I start everyone out with a clean slate. However, I am never surprised when they turn out differently. I have had a couple guys in the past that worked for me and I never saw symptoms (did in retrospection) of their drug use. However, they had positive cocaine readings in their urine. Needless to say that cost them their careers. They both had 19 years in and were on year short of a 50% retirement. They were also good friends and one went down about 3 years before the other. You would think common sense would have kept the latter straight, but Nnnnnnnnnnooooo! They lost so much for so little. They threw it away. We have a zero tolerance policy for law enforcement staff.
