Youth held for offering drugs at police party

Tue Sep 7,11:43 AM ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - A German teenager set himself up for an easy arrest when he offered to sell marijuana to guests at a party full of off-duty policeman, police from the northern town of Eschwege say.

"He told people at the party he had cannabis if they wanted to smoke something a bit stronger," said a police spokesman on Tuesday.

A pair of police officers celebrating the birthday of a colleague led the man to an area away from the festivities before making the arrest.

"Police have a private life too. The poor guy picked the wrong customers that night," the spokesman added.

The 17-year-old and two friends had crashed the party at a sports club on Friday night. He was not identified.

Dutchman escapes after manure shock

Tue Sep 7, 1:13 PM ET

THE HAGUE (Reuters) - A Dutch driver was covered in hundreds of litres of manure when a tank burst on a lorry carrying fertiliser, police say.

"It was a nice night ... so he probably opened his window when he stopped at a traffic light, and then -- (it) happened," said Dana Kragten, spokeswoman for police in rural Drenthe province, on Tuesday. "The tank had a small window which burst, probably due to pressure ... The man said he had no time to back away his car or close his window."

Police said the man, whose car was sprayed with an estimated 1,700 litres (370 gallons) of liquid manure, escaped injury though his car had to be towed away.

Coroner Discussing Gun Safety Shoots Self

7 minutes ago Add Strange News - AP to My Yahoo!

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Monroe County Coroner David Toumey was hospitalized with a leg wound after accidentally shooting himself while trying to demonstrate gun safety.

Toumey told The Herald-Times for a story published Saturday that he was demonstrating gun safety to some people at a Lake Monroe boat ramp about 11 p.m. Wednesday when he accidentally shot himself.

He said that as he checked to make sure his weapon was unloaded, the gun discharged, and a bullet struck him in his left leg.

"It's an unfortunate accident," Toumey said. "I've always been very, very safe."

He was taken to Bloomington Hospital and later transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Toumey said he was scheduled to have surgery Saturday and expects to be in the hospital from three to five days.

Monroe County Sheriff Steve Sharp said he was unable to release details of the shooting because the report had yet to be filed by the deputy assigned to the case.
