On the off-chance that you were going to complain about my support of Arnold...

No......I got screwed up with my posting.

At least that part of what he said could be true. I can't speak about the rest, the only thing I know about Austria is my wife says they speak German funny. But she also says Bavarians don't speak German...

My friend's father is Austrian and her mother is German.....they understand each other fine. As I understand its like the difference between British English and American English.

Arnold may well have seen tanks when he was a kid if his family traveled to the Soviet sector.......and could well have been freaked out by them.....hell I was freaked out by fire engines when I was a kid.......but what is refutable is his complaint that the Austrians are socialists. They are the least socialist of any country in western Europe. Its ridiculous and tiring that he would bring up this whole commie thing 15 years after the Berlin wall had fallen and then try to make the Dems into socialists particularly when in just about any other state than CA Arnold would be considered a Dem. In fact, he is married to one.........such hypocrisy.

BTW are you having trouble posting on SI today? I can never be sure if its SI or my ISP.

combjelly,

I was talking with some Germans (UN diplomats at kid's birthday party) recently I mentioned that I used to watch a lot of Austrian TV when I was a kid, but but but my German was not that good to understand all of what I heard. He said not to worry, that he has hard time understanding Austrians as well.

Of course he was just joking, but there must be something to the Austrian accent. Not that I could tell the difference between Austrian German and regular German...
