This is true, at a perpetual $50 a barrel. But I am not yet convinced that even with this assumption we could supplant oil with alternative fuels. In fact, I don't think it will even be close. I have experimented with this stuff and it is no panacea, I tell you. It is fraught with problems, maintenance and usage issues that I think would drive up costs unacceptably.

Admittedly, I do not know enough to stand by this firmly. But I think we are very far away from models that are solid enough to allow us to level a fit argument against Bush's energy policy.

We only hear about this stuff in election years. No one is really serious about it - not Bush and damned sho not Kerry. We will get serious about it when it works and when it produces a lot of money. Then we will all have a lot of fun - again - like we did in the 90's.

At some point, even pig sh*t methane like in Mad Max : Beyond the Thunderdome becomes viable..
