I don't agree with Zell Miller's analysis of the Democratic party at all. It's rather odd that Mr. Miller praises FDRs crop of Democrats, but lambasts the current far more centrist crop of Democrats. FDRs Democrats were true reformers, they made working people's lives better with things like the 40 hour work week, overtime, labor protection laws, etc. They reshaped American society for generations. If anything has changed with the Democratic party in my lifetime, it is that they have sold out to big business interests and have become Republican lite corporate servants. We once had a business party (Republicans) and a relatively populist party (Democrats). Now we have two business parties. On economic issues, I have a really hard time telling the difference between the two parties (perhaps taxes is one area that they differ significantly). It's really social issues that distinguish the two major parties now. Which is probably why a southern rube like Zell Miller is uncomfortable with the Democrats. He's really more of a Republican socially.
