After Andrew, most of the insurance companies threatened to move out of FL. So the state set up a fund that collects a portion of the very high premiums we pay. The insurance companies are limited in their cap liability, the rest comes from the fund.

Yeah, its the same as CA.

And as I posted before FEMA is funded from premiums.

Really.......I didn't know that......I thought it was funded by the federal budget. Then I stand corrected.

So I don't think the Federal tax payer (or insurance payer) is hurt too bad from these hurricanes. We make our bed here in Florida and we pretty much pay for it.


Yeah, you're right.......and I felt all that guilt after the LA quake.......that we were screwing the country. Although, the premiums come from everyone, don't they? Residents of states like MN or ND or SD that don't have many FEMA claims must get screwed under the FEMA system.
