By all accounts, including his mother's account, Bush lived a wild youthful life thirty-five years ago. If we are honest we probably can admit that we did things thirty-five years ago that we would prefer to forget about and that are not representative of who we are now. Kerry is no different. He lived quite a juicy life thirty-five years ago that doesn't represent who he is now. He got all caught up in the electricity of the hippy anti-war stuff, just as bush got all caught up in the electricity of drinking and partying in his youth. All of us embellish our personal exploits to make the story carry more wait from time to time. Kerry embellished his story to place himself in Cambodia. I doubt that he intended to do anything but make his point more weighty. He probably knew guys who were in Cambodia and so it worked to make his point about what was happening in Viet Nam to declare his location as Cambodia.

Did he lie by the letter of the law... I suppose you could say that. However, he did not lie to deceive us about the informational point he was trying to make. He embellished his own part in it to help draw our attention to his complaint. It was thirty-five years ago and does not represent his current behavior or his conduct as a senator for all these years.

This stuff about bush as a youth or kerry as a youth is all garbage in the context of what each could bring to the presidency of 2004-2008.

What are the issues and what do we know about each man's position and ability to perform as Chief Administrator of the USA. We have heard enough about the character of each. We all know that neither represents the characterisations of thirty-five years ago.

Bush admitted to having a wild youth and dismissed it as a non-issue for today. Kerry needs to acknowledge his over exuberence as a youth and refocus on the issues of the day. Everybody else needs to get over their complaints from the sixties and look at what these two men represent in this decade.
