Re Labor unions loss of power - They only have themselves to blame. My experiences in NYC on construction told the story - forced hiring people that werent needed on the contractor for peace; quotas (very low) on the number of masonry blocks laid in a day, two unions fighting over jurisdiction and putting a worker in the hospital because he belonged to another union that wasnt the one claiming the work.

This doesnt even address corruption.

The concept of unions is great and they would still be more powerful if they had not engaged in corruption and excess and had worked on being productive with business.

Now, in the world economy they are competing with labor everywhere, not just US non union labor. The union is a dinosaur if they expect to compete the way they have. Of course they are losing jobs unless they regroup and really add value for the corps and members and not detract.
