In honesty, prior to 2000 I had always thought the EC was a bad idea, then after the 2000 election the discussion came up of eliminating it. Which prompted me to go and research it. There are some fairly substantive arguments in favor of keeping it -- not the least of which is to prevent violent, knee-jerk movements within the community -- and it does serve that purpose. Sometimes, a community can be unduly influenced by passions of the moment. I think the winner take all electoral college system is flawed. If folks want to honor the FF desire for representatives to vote, then encourage the states to apportion their electors by the popular vote in that state. If the vote is 50/50, the electors are 50/50. States can do as they wish. If states choose to do this, I certainly would have no problem with it; it is their decision. >> What the hell are you talking about? John, Re: "But I think the best system is the popular vote." You seem to what to ignore the issue I brought up about the popular vote causing more problems in the case of a close election. Just imagine a close election like 2000 (even in popular vote). The whole country would need to re-count and the Supreme Court in each state would have to decide about "hanging chad". John - Please think this through ... Also, apportioning EC in each state could cause the same thing to happen. Make It So, Yousef
