Ted,

They project it to weaken when it get's past Cuba. Our other 'cane's cooled the Gulf.

The "experts" admit this one is really hard to guess, with a lot of variables in the steering currents.

People here are snakebit... the lady that runs the barn where we keep our horse has decided to pack up all the horses and go to TN tomorrow. We're trying to talk reason with her... but she hasn't had electric since Saturday and I don't think she is reasoning real well.

John

RE:"Meanwhile, they say the hurricane is strengthening.....how can it be strengthening when its already a cat5?"

A Cat 5 can become a stonger Cat 5. It's all related to the barometric pressue. There is a table that says when the pressure is this then the sustained winds must be that.
When the pressure rises they know the wind speed is less.

Hurricane Gilbert (1988) holds the record for the lowest barometric pressure of any Altantic Hurricane since they started recording. Something like 26.22 inches of mercury.
