She got me on the kerning, too. I never used a proportional spacing typewriter so had no idea whether they were able to adjust the fit between letters like professional typesetting machines, which I DID use.

After googling the topic, I don't see how any ordinary typewriter could kern, but at any rate, IBM Executive typewriters did NOT kern.

IBM did have some specialized typesetting typewriters. I still have no idea what Jerry Killian did for a living. Maybe he was a professional typesetter using his machine at work.

Stranger things have happened. I guess anything is possible.
