The White House distributed the four memos from 1972 and 1973 after obtaining them from CBS News. The White House did not question their accuracy.

Well, there are all kinds of criminal laws against forgery.

I did a quick search for federal statutes that might apply.
This one probably isn't right on the money, but does deal
with military records:

Since I don't practice criminal law, I'm not up on all
the intricacies of the crime.
