That was in the early 90s. Bush was talking about imminent threat (and don't bother yammering about the exact words...there were enough for him to go to immediate invasion) NOW. Bush repeatedly did (and still does incomprehensibly but, for the idiot American Public, effectively) link 911 to Saddam Hussein. 70% of the American Public thought there was a direct link. How did they get that idea? Out of the blue? Out of their own independent research? I have no idea who is still in Saudi Arabia but it's too dangerous for Americans. Saudi Arabia doesn't FIGHT AQ. It supports it. Don't you know that? Don't you know that the Saudis have long supported the fundamentalists? Don't you know that Saudi "charities" are fronts for terrorist groups? Don't you know that Bandar's Wife supported the terrorists learning to fly in the US? She apparently sent them checks. OBL was elevated BY BUSH to the status of holy warrior. OBL, since he's been running around for 3 years --- anniversary this week! --- has been further elevated to ReallyBigHolyWarrior who has made a mockery out of the Bush 'dead or alive' John Wayne bs. Don't you understand what you do with an opponent like this? You make him into a nut, a criminal, a person you don't want to have in your life...not an equal opponent in some kind of holy war. That's INSANE. Oh baloney. Saddam Hussein was a secular dictator. He limited pilgrims into Iraq by keeping a reasonably (better than the US) tight rein on the borders. Don't you know? Since SH fell, women in Iraq have been going under the veil when they hadn't before. They're being accosted in the streets in Taliban-like fashion...that's new and not a good development. Al Sistani is a CLERIC. He's unelected yet he wields more real political power than Allawi. Don't you know? Al Sistani demands that the government is BASED ON ISLAMIC LAWS. Don't you know? Months and months ago, the interim government adopted Sharia laws. I have no idea what the case is now as major media seems to have pretty much abandoned real reporting out of Iraq (aside from ducking). So far the biggest winner out of the Bush Iraq Chaos has been IRAN and IRAN is not a liberal democracy! Bush did what Iran had been unable or unwilling to do: take out Saddam Hussein. Since when did the USA do Iran's bidding? Don't you know that we, in supposedly this great open democracy, are getting only a pinhole's look at what is happening in Iraq? Bush has declared victory 3 blooming times. International aid organizations, NGOs are LEAVING IRAQ because it is so dangerous. That's victory? August toll: 66 US KIA, 1100 wounded. 1100! That's victory 15 months after Bush declared Mission Accomplished? You know, if Bush is going to lie because he is dying to go to war, the LEAST he could do is prosecute the war competently.
