chooseanother, well, I hope you stay very, very healthy. I know that the self-employed have problems with the exorbitant cost of healthcare insurance and lousy coverage despite high premiums. A friend told me her husband woke up in excruciating pain one night. He was ashen and distressed. She called emergency. He was taken to the hospital. It was a kidney stone. Well, according to the $7,600! bill they got, this "emergency" was not covered. The bill was for two cat scans. Yes, she's fighting it. Outrageous! I say. Another friend - divorced - had insurance through her ex when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now that she doesn't have insurance - can't get it because of her "pre-existing condition", her doctor refuses to see her. She could only get treatments every other month when she was able to save the $400 for them. Then, too, insurance companies often change the rules mid-stream, offering one plan, only to announce its discontinuation 30 days hence. A couple I know found themselves in THAT position three months before their baby was due. The new plan did not provide any maternity. Costly baby for them!
