The draft was dead, as was our participation in the Vietnam War, before I had to confront it. I was 18 in the summer of '74. I remember the times, but avoided the worst of it, personally.

On Rather: after the invasion of Kuwait, I switched among channels to contrast coverage. Rather was the only one I saw who went out of his way to find an apologist for the invasion and put her on the air.
