The "preponderance of evidence" language indicates this crazy CBS announcement was written by lawyers.

No one but no one is thinking about the criminal law issues inherent in a violation of 18 USC 494, the statute that establishes criminal liability for knowingly using forged federal documents. If Rather is responsible, which I sincerely doubt, he'd better lawyer up.

Shoot, he'd better lawyer up anyway since he might face a conspiracy or aiding and abetting charge.

Contrary to some rumors, no internal investigation is underway at CBS News nor is one planned.

Can the "suits" be this stupid? Great. This will sink CBS news. I expect a newsroom revolt at CBS.

if CBS won't investigate (as they have now announced) who will?

The Feds.

There is a serious issue of federal criminal law being broken. It's a felony to knowingly use forged federal documents.

i did not have texmex with that woman, either said dan rather. rather is sticking to his story, and that is the right thing for him to do if he Knows there is no paper-dna paper trail. that comedian woman on espn (i can't remember her name) gave rather the right advice, i.e., "stick with yo lie."
