<The germans were free from foreign domination when hitler was in power. We conquered and occupied them. I guess we probably should have just let them be.> Germany invaded its neighbors and declared war on us. Iraq invaded its neighbors (including Iran) -- we drove them from Kuwait although we assisted them in their invasion of Iran. We wanted a "strong" Iraq -- a strong dictator -- and we lent him support. We should not have done that. We forced Iraq out of Kuwait under the UN flag -- an extraordinary success. We were on the right track -- painfully tedious though it might have been. We did not invade Iraq and conquer it because it was not in our interests to do it alone -- and it still was not in our interests to do so when Bush gave the order.
