Kerning matters more the larger the font

where 'larger' really means in relation to the eye. I remember being a purist some time ago and arguing that 'dot' fonts could not really be scaled unless you knew what the subtended angle was supposed to be. But at least fonts are designed (or at least MAY be e.g. MetaFont) for the point size. All other subtle factors are ignored.

I also remember saying that folks would never accept 300dpi because it was such crap compared to photo typeset copy and pictures couldn't be halftoned correctly, etc. I also remember looking at the IBM PC when it was introduced and predicting prompt failure because it was technically a dog and would never ... But hey, life goes on and folks don't seem to care after all.
