So far, Rather's defense boils down to, "Who you gonna believe? Me or your lying eyes?"

I mean, those documents obviously came off a computer and not a typewriter. Obviously. To sit here and play the game of 'Wait, in 1972 there was some super-duper expensive composing layout machine that might could have [this is Texas] written a document that by some freak chance looks exactly like Times New Roman 12 with Microsoft Word's default settings' is beyond absurd.

Leaving the font issues aside, it's not as if CBS's investigation of the story or the contents of memos passes muster either. Non standard abbreviations? Wrong size paper? Contradictions with authentic memos? Typed private documents by a non-typist? Pressure from a retired general? No originals to examine? No chain of custody? Denials from the widow, son, and now their "trump card" witness?

I just saw that Edwards is pressing Bush to answer the memos. This campaign really has no sense of self-preservation, does it? First no answer to the SwiftVets, now they think these memos won't blow up in their faces. News flash to Edwards: unlike the Swiftees story, ABC and NBC aren't running away from investigating this story. It's just too juicy for them to resist. You just might want to distance yourself before they report their findings.

Does this "confidential source" know its illegal to try to doctor Federal Records???

That goes for doctoring Kerry's military records too.

Many Inspector General investigations turn into criminal investigations. That is why Kerry's staff went ballistic when the Navy announced they were investigating his records.

The demos 2nd favorite punching bag, Don Rumsfeld, may get to sign charge sheets against some Kerry players.
