For one, the type face doesn't have to be Times Roman. It could be something else. While the names of the fonts can have a copyright, there is nothing stopping you from designing a similar looking (but not identical) font and calling it something else. Like Bold Face 2. I think it has been matched to Times New Roman both by the experts and by various non-experts lining up the text to Word's Times New Roman. Either way it doesn't match the database entries for the Selectrics available at or before 1972, or any other typewriter known to be available at the time. Tim
