Trust me, the quality of the fact-checking by the mass media is going to go up dramatically as a result of Rather being crucified by the bloggers. Is that such a bad thing?

I think we're about to see some rapid Darwinian adaption on the part of both old media and new. The old will go extinct or adapt, the new (whose best is currently quite good, but whose mass is lousy) will keep going or go professional or get tired or get infected with hacks, and will start to merge with the survivors of the old media. We're seeing this right now, as newspapers quote bloggers as sources and start to print their articles.
