James Carville and Paul Begala thought Zell Miller had mainstream appeal when they recommended Gore to choose him as Veep (I got that from a Slate article).

And Miller, I think, represents mainstream America much better than the guy who is the Democratic nominee this year. Miller is a conservative DLC type Democrat and was pretty popular in GA.

Course I guess to you everyone from the south is a died in the wool racist for all time.
