As I've been saying for a while, the draft will be back (my apology if this has been posted, I've been busy and couldn't keep up with the thread)

Powell Says War Service Should Pertain to Everyone

Sun Sep 12, 1:29 PM ET
By Lori Santos

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) refused to get into the debate over the Vietnam service of the U.S. presidential candidates on Sunday but said if the United States ever went back to mandatory enlistment, everybody should be "equally liable" for war service.

Powell made the remark on "Fox News Sunday," explaining his opposition to Vietnam-era policies that allowed many, including his boss, President Bush (news - web sites), to serve in Reserve and National Guard units instead of on the battlefield.

"....more flowers and jubilation from the iraqi people."

They have well and truly screwed up there. I used to think they could stabilize the situation and restore order. I don't think that can happen any more. So we will likely have to beat a hasty retreat and a lot of civilians are going to die as local warlords fight over their pieces of the pie. And we bear full responsibility.

The video of the Arab journalist getting shot will have serious impact in the Arab world to our detriment. Conditions will worsen in Iraq. Its shocking how out of control things are in Iraq.

So we went into Iraq. And turned it into Afghanistan. The Afghanistan after we took out the Taliban, of course. I guess I can understand Smirk's opposition to nation building, he certainly didn't have the slighest clue on what to do.

Afghanistan today:
