Police Union Endorses President Bush

(CNSNews.com) - At a time when some police chiefs are railing against President Bush for failing to press for renewal of the "assault weapons ban," the Fraternal Order of Police has endorsed the re-election of President Bush, calling him "one of the very best friends that rank-and-file law enforcement officers have ever had." The endorsement came on Friday, ahead of the group's national board meeting over the weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. "We are fortunate to have this man in the White House and we are proud to give him our endorsement today," said Chuck Canterbury, national FOP president. For a candidate to receive the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police, he must receive a two-third majority of the National Board. Canterbury said President Bush received the board's unanimous endorsement. Canterbury noted President Bush's support for the "Hometown Heroes Survivors Benefits Act"; passage of the "Law Enforcement Officers' Safety Act," which exempts active and retired law enforcement officers from state and local prohibitions on carrying concealed firearms; and the adoption of new regulations giving law enforcement officers, firefighters, and paramedics stronger overtime protections. The Fraternal Order of Police describes itself as the largest law enforcement labor organization in the United States.

Thats not what he promised. He promised to sign it if it lands on his desk. If you want a safer America don't sacrifice everybody's rights to do so. Go after depression, that disease results in 80% of all firearms deaths each year via suicides.
