Hi room - I think Sunw should promote their Solaris OS and if INTC will help finance the software/hardware porting for their Itanium chip, then why not add it to their mix. It will only help SUNW expand their customer base. The key IMO is to get as many customers on the SOLARIS program rather than the Linux option. Then migration to the higher end machines will be much easier.

Intel will need to open up their check book to help the development go forward and they will also need to finance a marketing program (jointly w/ SUNW) to promote Solaris. This could be a win win for both companies and possibly provide for other new ventures between the companies in the future.
