Managing the peace is not a military function. Managing peace is purely political. We are very good at maintaining peace at home.

This is the DOD argument. But Barnett is showing how it will change. And the Military is going to buy into it. When you are dealing with an "Iraq," you need a combination of military force with police functions, tied to restructuring. Right now the MP function is the lowest caste in the Army. That is why Abu Graib happened. We won't get that fixed in the Army until the top MP position is a four star.

You were part of the struggle to make SO a reality in the Army. Now you will witness this change. The most important book on the future of the military is The Pentagon's New Map by Thomas P. M. Barnett. amazon.com Get a copy and put it on the top of your reading stack.

Barnett is a genius. Every flag in the DOD is taking his brief.
