It probably shouldn’t…but it does. The major networks, their anchors and the major left-wing print-rags have for years pushed anti- war agendas and supported Democrat candidates while vilifying Republicans. However, this is the first time I can remember a major network (CBS) not only presenting forged documents to the public but, lying to one of their ‘sources’ to support a story that fits their political agenda. One of the latest involves Maj. Gen. Hodges [Ret.], formerly of the Texas Air National Guard and Lt. Col. Killian’s (superior of [then] Lt. George W. Bush) supervisor. According to Maj. Gen. Hodges, he was told by CBS that they had “handwritten notes” affected by Lt. Col. Killian. Believing that CBS was telling him the truth, Hodges responded "well if he wrote them that's what he felt." That was what CBS needed to claim that Hodges was an “unimpeachable source”. The problem is that none of these alleged documents and/or memos was handwritten; let alone by Killian. When Maj. Gen. Hodges discovered CBS had lied to him, he advised the LA Times that he had not seen the documents. When Hodges realized that he’d been lied to about the handwritten nature of the ‘memos’, he stated that he believed the documents had been “computer generated” and that they are a “fraud”. Still, CBS advises that they are sticking to their story and "We believed Col. Hodges the first time we spoke with him. We believe the documents to be genuine. We stand by our story and will continue to report on it." The ludicrous nature of this statement by CBS is that they only quoted Hodges on Rather’s 60 Minutes II “exposé” as saying (Hodges statement regarding Killian) “that’s what he felt”, instead of including his entire quote. The first portion of the quote “if he wrote them” completely contradicts the rest of it. The documents/memos were not handwritten, as CBS told Hodges. Lt. Col. Killian did not write them. Another odd piece of information, pertaining to these documents, is that the type in the documents appears to be ‘kerned’. Amongst other attributes, kerning automatically groups and proportionally spaces letters and/or words to track precisely with Times New Roman 12 pt font. Although kerning has been used by typesetters for years, in word processors and current computer programs, it is not used on typewriters. The text appearing in the CBS documents strongly appear to be kerned. Therefore, a typewriter could not have been used. Let’s get the real experts in on this one! Sunday, another revelation emerged. NewsMax reported that it contacted a senior CBS executive and asked if CBS had received the documents from any Dem leader or member of the John Kerry campaign. NewsMax reports that the CBS Exec said “I can’t answer that question” and then promptly hung up. Hmmm. Under any circumstances, this doesn’t smell or look good for CBS. CBS’ and Dan Rather’s stubborn insistence to stand by their forgeries boggles the minds of any thinking person. Is it ego? Is it that they’ve been caught in lies on top of lies? Is it that they are hoping the general public doesn’t read the alternative media and will believe whatever CBS tells them? This is not only the height of arrogance but, an attempt to both deceive voters and influence a Federal Election via fraud; to elect their candidate John Kerry. Has their candidate responded? Of course not. Like many other condescending potentates before them, the CBS executives and their “reporter” are being exposed. And, like other self-serving monarchs before them, they refuse to admit their transgressions. Isn’t it time that CBS went away? When they ask us to watch their network and buy their sponsors’ products, can’t we just say “no”? I can.
