William, re: "I don't know if there is anything remarkable about Kerry's service, but I sure don't intend to vote for him."

Good point. I don't know if there's anything amiss about Bush's national guard service, but that wouldn't influence my vote for or against him.

It's not the service that's important, it's the man that exists after having gone through the service and all of the other life experiences that have shaped his views of life and views of the world.

I'd like to have someone leading us in a time of war that has some idea of how difficult it is to fight a determined foe in a different culture and in a faraway land. I'd particularly like to have him understand how big and diverse a place the world is. Whether he got that by being in a war, reading books, exercising common sense or just through osmosis, isn't of any concern to me.

In the war on terrorism and in their handling of the occupation of Iraq, Bush/Cheney have consistently shown that not only do they lack that understanding, they refuse to pay any heed to those who have "been there and done that." They've demonstrated overwhelming incompetence as a hallmark of their foreign policy decision making.

For that reason, I won't vote for Bush/Cheney.
