Can't agree with you there - Kerry has mentioned those topics, but he continues to compare his service in Viet Nam to Cheney's and Rumsfeld's deferments, as well as having made Nam the centerpoint of the Democratic convention.
The Bush campaign, on the other hand, is essentially ignoring the Viet Nam era. Bush has repeatedly said that Kerry is to be commended for his service, and that it was more heroic than his own in the NG. As a result, the Prez comes off looking like a classy, mature adult, while Kerry comes off as a whining adolescent. Kerry would be better off if his supporters at CBS were to just let this NG issue alone. No one really cares if GW got preferential treatment or not - joining the Guard was not really that much better than enlisting in the Navy when it came to finding a way to avoid combat back then.
