I have a more basic question: who at CBS put those 4 memos on the Web?

Why did they withhold the other two? That really points to "conspiracy."

I thought about that, too, which is in part why I'm questioning this. I can imagine scenarios where that would have happened without any formal decision by a knowledgeable person. I've seen that exact thing happen more than once. The geeks who do the web stuff figure they're being helpful so they throw stuff out there. Or they ask some boss who doesn't know the details and he authorizes it.

It's possible that the only person at CBS who knew that the documents were iffy was the guy in charge of vetting the documents and maybe he was just stupid rather than a conspirator. It's also possible that the impetus came from Rather or above. I don't think we have enough information yet.
