Can you imagine what kind of internal warfare must be taking place right now at CBS headquarters? First, an announcement concerning an announcement. Then a timing of the announcement. Next, the time comes and goes with no further information. A perfect silence sets in as far as public statements are concerned. Within that perfect silence, like the eye of a storm, all of the action is contained. Shall we say this? No! Then shall we say that? No! Shall we reveal our source? Hell no! It will destroy the Kerry campaign. Then what shell we do? Shall we pray? Or shall we just keep quiet and act as if nothing has happened? What does Rather suggest? Nothing!
