If cbsnews is not complicit, then this must be extreme carelessness of facts and burden of proof bordering on reckless negligence. At a minimal, it is a form of wishful thinking on their part to make the evidence no matter how flimsy or false fit their theory of how the world should be. I find it hard to believe with all the reporters and chain of custody of the forged memos, including the investigative work that all of these people on the chain have clean hands and no malice. Starting at the very top, it is not just the partisanship of Rather that is despicable, everyone is allowed to have an opinion or conviction, it is his blatantly obvious deliberate bias with pretense of impartiality that grates on your soul. There was a time when I admired this man, but these past few days, I can't help but feel sorry for him. Just think of it, Dan Rather is in his autumn years, four years ago, he saw his democratic party lose the presidency to the son of the man he hated and helped bring down, he didn't retire, he hung around for four years hoping to leave his one lasting mark, his one final legacy to the world and his gift to the democratic party : that he will orchestrate a campaign of TRUTH to bring power back to where it always belonged --- with the Democrats. And yet, now, he sees his world collapsing around him. This must be his worst nigthmare come true. It is true you know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
