If you want to name a "they", it's Dan Rather and his producer Mary Mapes, so far. You could also include Andrew Heyward, head of CBS News, because he's supporting Rather. Unfortunately for the innocent employees of CBS News, they will be tarred with the same brush. But when people refer to "CBS" in this context, it's really the head honchos at CBS News, Heyward and Rather, plus Rather's producer.

Sorry for any boredom that ensued.

Posters here are dashing off notes for fun. They exaggerate and are sloppy with meaning. If you want to drive them nuts by parsing every sentence, go ahead. I just look for what they mean.

"CBS" here means Rather and his producers. He is not just a "talking head," we have read plenty to show that he has been driving this story ever since Bush decided to run for President. Would they forge the documents themselves? They would be tempted, but wouldn't. Will they take advantage of them when they are handed to them, and figure they can use them and get away with it? Damn straight they would, and they did. Now it's payback time.
