I spent some time lurking DU about this and am even more suspicious that it could not possibly be a legitimate Democrat site. Too much discussion of conspiracy theories. You know the ones, Prescott Bush was really working for Hitler.

Maybe Hillary and Terry McAuliffe started it as a way of drawing the far leftwing absolute whackos as a way of discrediting the people who are to the left of the DLC?

Except that both far right and far left have very similar absolute whackos -- the enemy has very similar characteristics -- the Trilateral Commission, Council on Foreign Relations, New World Order, PNAC, Jews, Bilderbergers, Neocons, globalization, International Foreign Bankers, some sort of cabal between Jewish bankers and Jewish Communists. Sorry, my mind is reeling from the double recursive feedback effect.

And then along comes Thomas P.M. Barnett.

>>How's it sound to you?

I am having a hard time figuring out who would have a cause of action against CBS. Bush doesn't, he comes under NYTimes vs. Sullivan, they can say pretty much what they want unless they know the content is false.

Regardless, Bush isn't going to sue them. They know that. He's no dummy.

Nobody at that level ever sues over nasty criticism.

I suppose Killian's wife could sue, but she'd probably go out on summary judgment, the report wasn't directed at him. His reputation wasn't seriously damaged, either.

No harm, no foul, vis-a-vis Killian, is my guess.

So where does that leave us? Dirty tricks, and that's politics. It will turn off the swing voters is about it.
