What's your position on whale watching tours? Maybe we can find common ground there.

We'll I can understand folks wanting to catch a glimpse of an Orca...but those propellers and engines make a lot of noise...and well we could do fine without them. There are regulations for staying clear of Orcas and not operating your engine near us.

So my thinking is that only certified folks should be skippering whale watching tours and once they get close to us please shut off your engine and then if we're curious, and the boat doesn't have any Bush Cheney stickers on it, we might just come over and give you a show.

WASHINGTON — Senators from both parties accused the Bush administration yesterday of incompetence in its efforts to rebuild Iraq and said the United States could lose the war unless it improves security and gets more money into the Iraqi economy.
Among those harshly criticizing the White House at a hearing were the two top Republicans on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee: Chairman Richard Lugar of Indiana and Chuck Hagel of Nebraska.

Of the $18.4 billion Congress approved last year for Iraqi reconstruction, $1.14 billion has been spent because of violence and other problems. Hagel called that record "beyond pitiful and embarrassing; it is now in the zone of dangerous."

Even Lugar, who is not usually given to strong rhetoric, said the failure to inject funds into the Iraqi economy quickly was "exasperating for anybody looking at this from any vantage point."

Even republicans are casting doubt on the war in Iraq.

I wish I had the gall to organize a "watch the whale watcher's" group to go after those who go on whale watch tours with cameras, binoculars, etc. "Look at that weird one over there in the purple pants. Have you ever seen one so big?" "Look at that on jump. Just amazing how they can do that." "Hey, everybody, gather round and take pictures of THIS whale watcher. He's a weird one."

I bet they wouldn't like it. Why do they think the whales do?
